"Aayan, a normal 23-year-old agnostic American youth who happens to be from a Muslim family, is driven to vengeance when his brother, a devout Muslim who actedas his conscience, is murdered in a hate crime in the aftermath of 9/11. As he lies in wait, conflicted, to kill the thugs responsible, he utters a prayer challenging God to stop him, if He exists; the movie unravels during the course of the prayer. The film follows Aayan’s internal journey towards an unexpected spiritual awakening as God steps up to the challenge."

"The film is about a boy who's mother gives him a statue of Jesus for protection when he is too scared to walk to school through his seedy new neighborhood; she says the statue will be his friend. The boy takes his mother’s words at face value, however, and starts seeing and treating the statue as a real person, which leads to surprising new encounters on his walk to school as well as antagonism with his troubled mother, who is forced to question her own faith."
